For a few years now I’ve wanted a way to transmit the sounds from my feeders inside on cold days. I wasn’t able to find anything commercially available, so I began the long process of designing, testing, and producing one myself. I started off cobbling together components I had laying around, trying to find some way to get the sound inside. I moved up to an FM transmitter that I bought as a kit, but I couldn’t keep it tuned in, and there was a lot of interference and noise. Some nice engineers took pity on me (and some of my money) and made some additional attempts at prototyping, culminating in the current version (V5.0 I think). I slapped that together with a power bank and some bluetooth components and viola, a wireless system to hear the birds!
In short, it works but MAN, it’s as ugly as the commercials before an election! 😉
The unit is now being redesigned for production. After that’s done, I’ll be moving on to figuring out the supply chain, inventory, assembly, order fulfillment, customer service, eCommerce considerations, regulatory approvals, packaging, and everything else needed behind the scenes so that you can click a button and get one of these speeding to your door. Yeah, it’s every bit as dull – and strangely exciting at the same time – as that. With a LOT of hard work and a little luck this might be ready to launch by the end of 2018.
So, stay tuned. Head over to the Click mailing list page to be added to the email list to get updates!
