The ChirpSounds system is everything you need to hear your birds right through your windows! With unparalleled sound quality, rustic look, and wireless convenience, this complete system includes a TX1 Transmitter that you'll hang outside, pre-paired with a long range speaker to play the sounds inside. It will arrive ready to work right out of the box, so you can order it for yourself or send it to a loved one with confidence.
The TX1 Transmitter (everyone calls it "The Acorn"):
The wireless transmitter has a very sensitive microphone, a rechargeable battery that lasts a week between charges, and some custom electronics to make it all work, carefully tucked into a weather-proof and durable housing. There's no complicated set-up, no apps, and no subscriptions...just the pure sounds from your feeder as they happen in real time! Just as simple as the set up is the operation of the system. Once the two parts are paired together, they'll remember each other. You'll simply hang the acorn outside, and the speaker does everything else. When you turn the speaker off, the acorn drops into a very low power state to preserve battery capacity. As soon as you turn the speaker back on, they reconnect and in seconds, your house will again be filled with bird sounds in seconds. You'll adjust the volume with the speaker's volume controls. It couldn't be simpler.
The Speaker:
Most speakers have a range of about 30' with no obstructions (and sometimes a good bit of luck). Not so with our speaker! Manufactured by top-notch Oontz with a powerful wireless radio and outstanding antenna design, this small speaker will connect with your acorn up to 100 feet away (with good line of sight)!
Weighing in at just over half a pound, it cranks out 10W of power and plays all day on its internal rechargeable battery. It's the perfect size to sit on your windowsill. A USB cable (included) charges the unit in conjunction with a USB wall charger (not included, but available from ChirpSounds) similar to the one you use to charge your smartphone. You can also leave it plugged in for extended playing, but just remember to turn the speaker off when not listening, because this causes the rechargeable outdoor unit to sip power and be ready when you turn the speaker back on.
Systems come already pre-connected and ready to use. Both parts are shipped with a partial charge to comply with shipping regulations, but there will be enough for you to put it right outside for a test when it's delivered. Turn the acorn on (press and hold the power button on the inset brown label until the first flashes and then let go) and hang it outside. Head back inside and turn the speaker on (there's an arrow pointing to it)...and enjoy! Give it a listen for a day, then charge both acorn and speaker overnight.
Watching your backyard birds in the cold of Winter (or heat of Summer) is like watching TV with the sound turned down. Join the flock and hear your birds!
Note: There is a clear sticker with the logo on it in the acorn box. Please apply this to the smooth face of the speaker to make it look like the photos.

After charging the transmitter and Bluetooth speaker overnight, I set the system up with the acorn shaped microphone outside my sliding glass door. I set the speaker on a table about eight feet from the microphone. Once powered up, the speaker reproduced birdsong quite well, however, it soon began to cut out intermittently. If I moved the speaker closer it stopped cutting out, but it cut out constantly with the speaker more than 10 feet, line of sight distance. I understand that the range depends on many factors, but am disappointed that the useful range is so limited.
I can't believe how much birdsound this captures! It's not just chirps and songs—it's the fluttering of wings, the sounds of seeds tapping against feeders and branches, and being able to identify an incoming bird by the increasing volume of its song! I'm amazed by just how much of the outdoor world this little system brings inside. Magic!
Product performs 100% as advertised. Directions are comprehensive. I had to read them four times before I felt ready to do the set up, but it all worked the first time. Still experimenting with different locations for mic.
Quality wise, system is everything I hoped. Even easy to set up. Very sensitive microphone - picks up wing feather movement and birds cracking seeds. Range is very satisfactory. Good speaker.
Customer service was excellent on 2 issues. Connection between mic and speaker would not work through our windows. Wayne was quick to respond and suggested placing speaker by a wall because some windows have a coating that blocks signal. Success!
Second, wind noise. Wayne recommended a filter/sock (fuzzy style) for desktop mic. Solved it!
Because sounds are so crisp and clear, for the first several days when we entered the room, we often thought a window or door was open.
So happy with system that we ordered a 2nd to give a bird watcher - who is also thrilled with it.
Sitting here doing Day 2 of my weekly Feeder Watch. Oh my, has this system of yours revolutionized my enjoyment! Not only the normal bird chatter, but the approach of a rain squall, the lashing of the branches in the wind… the ‘thud’ followed by all the screams as a Cooper’s hawk shows up to take its turn at the feeder. The drama never ceases.
Even when I'm not looking outside, a sudden bird call will alert me to a new arrival. And recently an enterprising squirrel mistook the 'acorn' for the real thing. Its hopes for the big score to make its winter were sadly dashed.
Thank you for aiding and abetting this wonderment.
